Steven Brownlee faces aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, and other charges.
LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — A man faces charges after allegedly assaulting an infant in Lackawanna County.
According to the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office, Steven Brownlee, of Old Forge, called 911 on August 28 to report that the 5-month-old child was unresponsive.
Authorities say the baby was taken to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Doctors later determined the child’s injuries, which included head trauma and a traumatic brain injury, were caused by physical abuse.
Brownlee was the child’s sole caregiver when the injuries occurred, according to investigators.
The D.A.’s office says Brownlee then fled to Tupelo, Mississippi, following the alleged assault.
He was taken into custody on September 9 and will remain locked up pending extradition to Lackawanna County.
