The Perry Monument was dedicated to the victory of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry in the Battle of Lake Erie, during the War of 1812.
A special ceremony on Thursday, recognized the 100th anniversary of the Perry Monument at Presque Isle State Park.
Local officials, dignitaries, and Veterans turned out for the ceremony in full force.
Erie native (Ret.) Vice-Admiral Matt Kohler served as the keynote speaker.
(Ret.) Major Dr. Joe Pfadt came up with the idea for the ceremony 10 months ago.
He joined speakers, County Executive Christina Vogel, DCNR Bureau Director John Hallas, Congressman Mike Kelly and Rear Admiral Samuel Cox.

The Harborcreek Vocal Ensemble performed God Bless America and Bryan Crable of PennWest Edinboro played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.
