Pennsylvania State Police investigated more crashes over the Labor Day weekend than they did a year ago, but there were fewer deaths.
From Sept. 4-7, state police said they investigated 790 crashes statewide, 152 of which involved injuries and resulted in three deaths. Impaired driving was a factor in 67 of those crashes, none of which was fatal.
Troopers also arrested 450 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and issued 25,402 citations, including 6,447 for speeding, 770 for failing to wear a seat belt and 84 for not securing children in safety seats.
In 2025, state police investigated 40 fewer crashes over the four-day weekend, but there were four more deaths than there were this year.
DUI arrests were down significantly compared to the previous year, with 450 arrests this year compared to 529 in 2025.
The Labor Day statistics cover only incidents and enforcement investigated by state police and don’t include those investigated by other law enforcement agencies.
