S. WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – The South Whitehall Township Planning Commission reviewed a sketch plan for a convenience store Thursday night at the municipal building.

The applicant, Sheetz Inc., is proposing a 6,139-square-foot facility with motor vehicle fueling stations on two parcels at 731 and 757 Hausman Road. The plan includes an associated parking lot, stormwater management facilities and utility connection. The project site encompasses about 2.1 acres.

Other features included on the sketch plan are a non-drive-thru mobile pickup window at the building’s rear and three access sites. Two of those sites are proposed along Hausman Road, while the third is between the Trivet property and the Sheetz site. Negotiations to modify the access agreement for the third site appropriate to the Sheetz layout are under review with the Trivet. A total of 48 parking spaces are proposed.

The 731 Hausman Road parcel consists of 1.7 acres and includes the existing Red Carpet Inn motel. It is bound to the east by the Trivet Diner and to the south by land owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The second parcel at 757 Hausman Road is one-half acre and includes a single-family detached residence with garage. This parcel is bound to the north by PPL facilities and a parcel owned by the township.

Thursday night’s meeting featured concerns involving traffic, particularly around the Trivet and on Hausman Road.

As it was a sketch plan, planners took no formal vote on the proposal.

Sheetz operates more than 830 stores across its seven-state footprint, which includes Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland and Michigan. All locations are open 24/7, 365 days a year.
