SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Scranton police say a tractor-trailer driver is facing DUI and drug-related charges after the vehicle allegedly struck a bridge and left the area.
Police were called to Luzerne Street and Railroad Avenue for a report of a tractor-trailer hitting the bridge and fleeing. Officers located the vehicle in the 500 block of North Main Avenue and conducted a traffic stop, police said.
Investigators determined the driver’s license was suspended, the tractor did not have a valid registration and the trailer had not been inspected since 2020, according to police.
Police said officers developed probable cause to charge the driver with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with traffic and vehicle code violations.
The department said the case underscores the role of its certified motor carrier enforcement officers in identifying unsafe commercial vehicles on city roads.
