JEFFERSON CITY − The Tunnel to Towers 9/11 Memorial Mobile Exhibit held its second day of public tours Friday at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City.
The exhibit closed for the night Friday with a ceremony honoring the victims of the attacks.
During the ceremony, Jefferson City high school students read the names of the 2,977 people who died during the 9/11 attacks.
The ceremony included a helicopter flyover, the national anthem and a prayer. A bagpiper played Amazing Grace and Taps.
John Bruckner, a retired New York firefighter who was at Ground Zero in the aftermath of the attacks, was Friday’s keynote speaker.

Students from Calvary Lutheran High School in Jefferson City were among those who took part in tonight’s ceremony. Although they were born after the attacks, one said tonight’s ceremony meant more than just reading out names.
“They deserve to have their names read and to be remembered, because something like this should never have happened,” said Madison Brewer, a freshman at Calvary Lutheran.
Brewer’s classmate, Maggie Schmitz, agreed. “Respect, respect to the men, the women, the mothers, the fathers and the brothers that didn’t get to come home and say goodbye,” she said.
The 9/11 Memorial Mobile Exhibit will be open until 7 p.m. on September 13.
