Erie native Billy Blanks returned home this weekend to share his message of health, fitness and purpose with the community.
Blanks taught a high-energy Tae Bo fitness class at Ascend Gym on Saturday morning, giving children and community members the opportunity to take part. Tae Bo is a popular workout program that combines martial arts and boxing.
The fitness class was followed by a presentation at St. John’s Lutheran Church called “Power and Purpose,” which was part of a wellness conference.
During the event, Erie Mayor Daria Devlin presented Blanks with her first key to the city, recognizing his accomplishments and his connection to his hometown. The mayor said the recognition marked a major milestone worth celebrating.
City councilmen, Andre Horton also announced a proposal to rename West Third Street “Billy Blanks Avenue.”
Blanks also spent time supporting local businesses during his visit. On Friday night, he stopped by Cafe 7-10, which is co-owned by his sister and niece, to show his support for their business.
