RailRiders squander 6-run lead against Rochester – Scranton Times-Tribune

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders stormed out to a six-run lead, but the Rochester Red Wings rallied for a 7-6 victory Saturday at ESL Ballpark.

The RailRiders (38-28 second half, 75-65 overall) are now a game behind Rochester (40-28, 85-56) in the International League East second-half standings with seven games left.

Marco Luciano got the RailRiders started with a solo home run in the top of the second. Then Max Schuemann’s solo shot and Yanquiel Fernández’s two-run blast in the third gave the RailRiders a 4-0 lead.

Tyler Hardman hit an RBI double, and Duke Ellis hit an RBI single for a 6-0 lead in the sixth. However, the Red Wings needed just the bottom half of the inning to tie the game.

Cayden Wallace and Riley Adams hit RBI singles, and Trey Lipscomb scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 6-3. Then, Liover Peguero’s RBI single, and Sam Petersen’s two-run single tied the game at 6.

Adams hit the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

The series concludes Sunday at 1:05 p.m. with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s Alexander Cornielle (5-4, 2.73) and Rochester’s Zak Kent (5-0, 4.71) the probable pitchers.
