Sunday was Grandparents Day, and there were celebrations throughout our area to honor all the grandparents around.
Music from the Keystone Band of Reheresburg filled the air outside Phoebe Berks. Grandparents got to enjoy the free concert right alongside their families.
In addition ,the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging hosted a free “Celebrate Grandparents” event at their headquarters, alongside United Healthcare.
They shared meals, played games, and danced across generations.
There are 260,000 children across Pennsylvania who are raised by their grandparents, and the PCA made sure resources were on hand in case those grandparents need help.
“Maybe it’s meals or home-delivered meals. Maybe it’s respite care because they need to go to a doctor and they can’t leave the kids home alone. Maybe it’s that they just need to know, ‘What Medicare plan should I be on?’ or other services that are available to them that they don’t even know are available to them,” said Pamela Diaconis, development manager, Philadelphia Corporation for Aging.
Each grandparent also left the event with a bag full of fresh produce and a community book full of healthy recipes.
