READING, Pa. – Although there was no weekly board of elections meeting on Thursday, Berks County Commissioner Michael Rivera reported at the commissioner’s meeting that the voter turnout for Tuesday’s election was 38 percent.
Rivera said that turnout was significantly higher than previous municipal elections.
The commissioners used the opportunity to thank all the 1,200 individuals who worked the Berks County polls and for election-related services on Tuesday.
Also Thursday, the commissioners voted to approve a letter of support for Mary’s Shelter’s application for funding from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement/Realty Ransfer Tax.
The program would provide funding for the expansion of the Youth Rapid Rehousing Program, which provides permanent, affordable housing and accompanied services to young people transitioning out of youth programs who would otherwise be homeless.
In other business, the commission to approve reappointments and appointments to the Berks County Area on Aging Advisory Board for two-year terms expiring on Dec. 31, 2027.
Reappointed were Jaime Baez Jr., Reading; Sandy Graffius, Wyomissing; Kristina Gingrich, Reading and appointed were Linda Groff, Reading and Zuleima Villalba, Reading.
The commissioners also authorized a $67,417 contract to Roberts Oxygen Company, Inc., Rockville, MD., for medical grade oxygen for Berks Heim.
