ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A walk at Cedar Crest College in Allentown on September 26th will bring the community together to raise awareness about ALS.
You might know it as Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS affects your nervous system.
It destroys nerve cells and gets worse over time.
There is no cure.
Organizers say walks like the one in Allentown support those with ALS and their families and raise money for research, treatments, and services.
“We are seeing a lot of great advances in care services which do improve people’s lives and longevity because we can make people’s homes more accessible, so you can stay at home. We have better technology so people can communicate with either apps or brain-computer interface, making it easier to live in your home with ramping and other devices, so we’re attacking ALS in terms of longevity and quality of life at the same time,” says Tony Heyl, Executive Director at ALS United Mid-Atlantic.
The Lehigh Valley ALS United Walk is on Saturday, September 26th.
Registration is at 10 a.m., and the walk will start at 11 a.m.
