Penn Brewery in Pittsburgh to get new owners
PITTSBURGH —
Penn Brewery in Pittsburgh’s Troy Hill neighborhood is set for a change in leadership following a bankruptcy filing earlier this year.
John Graf, CEO of Priory Hospitality Group, and Eric Heinauer were introduced Monday as the new ownership team to take over Penn Brewery.
“There’s nothing like it because this place is authentic. It’s not constructed out of whole air like Disney World. This was a brewer’s building. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places, and now it’s been revived and has created its own history, 40 years of it,” Graf said.

“What I would love for us to do, and I think we could do, is really return to being a traditional German brewery. This equipment is made to do that, and do it as well as any place else in the country. We have a team that we have put together that have fought through different ownership groups, everything else, that really do some of the best beers in the German style in the world,” Heinauer said.
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board must give final approval for the transfer.
Penn Brewery is gearing up for its annual Oktoberfest this weekend and next, Sept. 18-20 and Sept. 25-27.
