The City of Erie remains under a state of emergency Friday night following Wednesday’s powerful storms.
Strong winds and heavy rain brought down trees and power lines and left a path of destruction all throughout the city.
Cleanup underway in Erie after major storm damage
“With the police, we’ve had overtime, and many of our units called back so that we can put patrols out on motorcycles and help with traffic control,” said Erie City Mayor Daria Devlin. “With Public Works, we’ve had crews out around the clock working on clearing those streets, making sure that we can get debris cleared and get traffic through, that’s been our number one priority. We’re now shifting a bit from that to cleanup, so now we’re going around, working on our boulevards, working on our public spaces, to make sure that we’re getting those opened as well.”
Mayor Devlin said the city is also working with Penelec to restore power as soon as possible.
