Philadelphia teen publishes book to inspire children with a stutter

Austin BoleyPHILADELPHIA —

A Philadelphia teenager has become a published author, using his personal experiences to inspire children with a stutter to embrace their challenges.

Mas’ood Holloman wrote and released his first children’s book, “Finding My Voice,” which highlights his journey growing up with a stutter. The book’s main character, who plays baseball like Holloman, learns to accept and embrace his speech disorder.

“We survive through kids’ books. I stutter, and for the people who stutter just like me, it could inspire them to keep going. It just makes me proud of myself inside and that I actually wrote a book,” Holloman said.

Holloman sets up a stand at a community market every Thursday to sell his book. He is also working on his second book, titled “The Young Voice of a Muslim.”
