The Philadelphia Orchestra will open its 2026-27 season with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, performing in Marian Anderson Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday evening, Sept. 24.
According to a PhillyVoice report, the 7 p.m. program includes the U.S. premiere of Joe Hisaishi’s “Orbis,” composed to accompany Beethoven’s Ninth and inspired by its themes.
Beethoven’s Ninth will be performed with a quartet of soloists — Leah Hawkins, J’Nai Bridges, Issachah Savage, and Ryan Speedo Green — joined by the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir and the orchestra. Hawkins and Savage are Philadelphia natives, while Bridges is a Curtis Institute of Music alum and visiting faculty member, according to the PhillyVoice.
The concert also marks Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s 15th season as music and artistic director, and aligns with the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir’s 10th anniversary and the orchestra’s 125th anniversary season.
In a charitable note, all performers are donating their services for the concert to benefit the Musicians’ Retirement Fund.
Tickets can be purchased through the Philadelphia Orchestra’s official ticketing platforms, including its website or by calling 215-893-1999.
