LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Pennsylvania has surpassed 700 total measles cases this year, according to the newest data released by the state Department of Health.
As of Wednesday afternoon, there have been 731 total cases across 38 counties. Those cases have led to 141 total hospitalizations and four measles-associated deaths, according to the Department of Health.

Four vaccinated individuals have tested positive for measles, though the Department of Health said this is to be expected. Experts say the MMR vaccine provides 97% lifetime protection.

Nationally, there have been 3,294 reported measles cases, according to data released Sept. 11 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
