A Jessup man entered a Church Street home early Sunday, went into a bedroom where a 13-year-old girl was sleeping and fought with residents who tried to remove him, according to a criminal complaint.
Kevin Robert Barthold, of 402 Church St., faces charges of burglary, indecent assault of a person younger than 16, defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
According to the criminal complaint, Jessup police officers responded to 304 Church St. around 1 a.m. for a report of a burglary involving a teenage girl trapped in a bedroom with an unknown man.
Officers Kyle Kolveck and Eric Faramelli arrived to find Barthold, 48, fighting with two residents. Barthold was holding one of the residents when officers intervened and took him to the ground.
Police spoke with Sierra Bolsar, who said she and her mother, Mary McManus, had been sitting on the porch having drinks when they spotted Barthold parking across the street.
Barthold approached them and started a conversation. At first, they thought he was simply being friendly, but he then inappropriately touched both women, who immediately told him to stop.
Barthold then opened the door to an apartment, went upstairs and entered a bedroom where he found a 13-year-old girl. He locked the door behind him and then hugged the juvenile and grabbed her buttocks, according to the complaint.
The juvenile told police Barthold’s shorts were sagging down to his knees.
The commotion woke resident Brandon Bolsar, who attempted to enter the room to remove Barthold. Several residents repeatedly insisted Barthold leave. He refused, but they were ultimately able to force him out of the room.
A fight broke out between Barthold and the residents, prompting someone to call the police.
Officers attempted to restrain Barthold as he held Sierra Bolsar against a wall, but he struggled against them.
Once taken into custody, Barthold told officers he had been hanging out with friends before entering the home, but said he did not remember what happened after that.
Sierra Bolsar was transported to the hospital, where medical personnel treated a minor injury to her shoulder.
Barthold remains in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sept. 23 before District Judge Paul Keller.
