Pennsylvania Republicans address efforts to prevent government waste
Pennsylvania State Treasurer Stacy Garrity joined other state Republicans Wednesday morning to provide updates on efforts to stop government waste in the commonwealth.
The group said the focus is on federal money saved during an annual audit for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The audit identified improper payments, including overpayments, duplicate payments, and incorrect amounts sent to ineligible recipients.
“Last year alone, we prevented about 20,000 payments valued at about 1.4 billion dollars. Putting a halt to these improper payments last year resulted in savings, true savings, of $75 million for Pennsylvania taxpayers,” Garrity said.
The annual audit examines all programs in the state that receive federal funding.
