The Housing Authority of the City of Erie is launching a new after-school program aimed at supporting children living in public housing.
PAL-HOPE ASPIRES will serve students in grades three through five, providing mentoring and educational support outside the classroom.

The program is funded through a $500,000 state grant and brings together the Housing Authority, Erie Police, Erie County Probation and Parole, and community partners.
Organizers said the goal is to build positive relationships between young people and law enforcement while supporting students in Erie housing communities.
“It’s just an opportunity for the officers to engage with them in a more relaxed environment, in a more personal environment, versus just their presence being known when there’s issues and things going on in their neighborhoods,” said Tyresha Barnes, program coordinator for PAL-HOPE ASPIRES.
The Eagle’s Nest team partnered with and welcomed the program to its facilities.
