Robert C. Bolus, Sr.
OBITUARY
Robert C. Bolus Sr., 83, passed away on September 10 th . Born in Scranton on October 14, 1942, he was the son of the late Charles Bolus and Matilda Mancuso Bolus.
A veteran, Robert served his country before returning home to build a long and influential career as a businessman in the Scranton and Bradenton, FL areas. He owned and operated Bolus Truck Parts and Towing, a company well known throughout the region for its reliability and his unmistakable presence at the helm.
Robert was a Free Mason, committed to fellowship and service, and a proud member of the American Truckers Association. His patriotism was a defining part of who he was, reflected not only in his military service but also in his advocacy. He made efforts to bring home William Genaust, the Marine combat photographer who filmed the iconic flagraising on Iwo Jima and was never recovered, demonstrating Robert’s respect for veterans and his belief that every service member deserved dignity and remembrance. Bob was also a huge race fan and raced tractors/trucks for many years. He was featured on Japanese television for his truck racing. He was also a certified scuba diver and a private pilot who enjoyed his plane!
He was deeply philanthropic. For 32 consecutive years, Robert hosted a Christmas dinner for those in need, ensuring that anyone facing hardship had a warm meal, a welcoming space, and a sense of belonging during the holiday season. This tradition became one of the most enduring expressions of his compassion and generosity. He was an advocate for animals and made numerous donations to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter. Beyond his professional and charitable work, Robert pursued adventure and worldwide travel.
Robert is survived by his long-time partner, Sophie von Hake and her daughters Katie and Cree Gregory of Clarks Summit; daughter Atty. Debra Bolus and husband John Drury of Mountain Top; a son Robert Bolus Jr. and partner Kim Hart of Moosic. He is also survived by his sister, Carolee Tarapchak of Waverly; brothers Charles Bolus, MD and wife Lan Bolus of California, and Richard Bolus and wife Catherine Bolton of Clarks Summit. Grandchildren include Nicholas Grosek, Daniel Grosek, Brooke Bolus. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 South State Street, Clarks Summit. There are no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Robert’s honor to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.
