A Birdsboro man has been convicted of homicide for a fatal 2024 crash in Caernarvon Township.
Matthew Slauch, 25, was found guilty of homicide by vehicle, recklessly endangering another person and traffic violations following a two-day bench trial in front of Berks County Judge Thomas Parisi last week.
He is set to be sentenced in October.
Slauch was convicted of causing the crash that killed 64-year-old Scott Wagner of Spring Township.
According to court documents:
At about 8 a.m. on June 6, 2024, police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at Morgantown and Elverson roads in which a vehicle rolled over and an occupant was trapped.
Wagner, the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. Slauch, who was driving the other vehicle, was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Police determined Slauch was traveling at 76 mph in a 55 mph zone at the time of the crash. They also found that he had been illegally passing vehicles on Morgantown Road prior to the crash and that his vehicle at one time was traveling in excess of 100 mph.
