CAERNARVON TWP., Pa. – Police have convicted a Berks County man of homicide by vehicle for a fatal car crash that occurred in June 2023.
According to court documents, 25-year-old Matthew Slauch of Birdsboro was convicted of homicide by vehicle last week.
Slauch had previously, in 2024, been charged with reckless driving, disregarding traffic lanes, unsafe passing, and other related charges.
On the morning of June 6, 2023, officers from the Caernarvon Township Police Department responded to the area of Morgantown Road (Route 10) near Elverson Road for a report of a serious crash with a rollover.
Arriving officers found the occupant of one of the vehicles, 64-year-old Scott Wagner of Lancaster County, unresponsive. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, officials say.
Police say Slauch was traveling around 76 MPH in a posted 55 MPH zone at the time of the accident.
According to authorities, he had been illegally passing vehicles on Morgantown Road prior to the crash and that his vehicle at one time was moving over 100 MPH.
