The City of Erie continued with recovery efforts two weeks after a string of destructive storms— Emergency Management told us crews have been hard at work since, from code enforcement to cleanup efforts, to get things back in order.
“It’s been an incredible, huge team effort. Almost every department in city government has been assisting with damage assessment, especially our codes and planning departments,” said Allen Clark, City of Erie Emergency Management coordinator. “We’re looking at homes, you know, how bad was it? Was it destroyed? Major, minor? Where were the trees down?”

In terms of a timeline, Clark said dealing with devastation of this nature isn’t going to come quickly.
“Between the public works and private contractors, and residents and community groups, everyone pitching together to help each other out, it’s still gonna be a while for all the branches and all the trees to be cleaned up, but efforts are still ongoing. We have some specialized teams coming in to help residents,” said Clark
While crews continue working through the damage across the city, a Multi-Agency Resource Center is open through Saturday to connect people with help they may need.
The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency is offering assistance to those affected at the Salvation Army on Liberty Street in Erie.
“When people are affected by disaster, they may or may not know all the resources available for them to recover from the disaster, so what this does is this pulls together state agencies, county agencies, local agencies, nonprofits, non-governmental organizations,” said Brian Mesaros, Erie County Emergency Management coordinator.
Officials said the resource is a way for the state to help Erie when disaster strikes.
“It’s a group effort, you know, the city doesn’t have all the resources, and what the city doesn’t have, the county complements, but the city doesn’t have everything available for them, so we have to reach out to the state,” said Mesaros. “So, you know, getting everybody together to recover as a whole community approach is the best way to do it.”
The Multi-Agency Resource Center will be open at the Salvation Army on Liberty Street from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
