Olympus Corp. announced Friday that it is cutting 2,000 jobs worldwide.

How that affects employees at its U.S. headquarters in Upper Saucon Township and a warehouse in Upper Macungie Township was not immediately clear.

Olympus said it will reduce its global workforce of 30,000 by about 7% from fiscal year 2026 through fiscal year 2027. Further details about specific sites affected were unavailable.

In a statement to the media, the medical equipment manufacturer said it is making changes to achieve its goal to become the leader in endoscopy-enabled care.

In order to do this, “Olympus must pursue steady growth and maintain profitability to support continued investment in innovation aimed at improving patient outcomes,” according to the statement. “Olympus will implement structural optimization initiatives at a global level aimed at reducing duplication, simplifying processes, and establishing clearer operational accountability.”

The cuts are expected to save the company about $156.7 million. Olympus is targeting 5% year-on-year revenue growth by fiscal year 2029.

“This decision was made after careful consideration of all alternatives and reflects the company’s commitment to long-term sustainability and competitive positioning,” according to the statement.

In its second-quarter earnings report, also released Friday, the Tokyo-based company said it had revenue of $1.6 billion.
