PennDOT’s traveling Workers’ Memorial has stopped in Erie County, honoring employees who have died on the job.
Since the department’s founding in 1970, 93 PennDOT employees have lost their lives working on Pennsylvania’s roadways.
The memorial travels statewide ensuring they aren’t forgotten, with one stand displayed for each lost worker.
Those at PennDOT said the display also serves as a reminder to stay safe and aware while driving through active work sites.

“It’s just a good reminder for people to slow down when they’re in the work zones and understand that these are real people doing their jobs and they have families to go home to at night,” said Saxon Daugherty, District 1 safety press officer. “It’s a very somber experience. But it’s a very, you know, popular thing for people to come look at and read about and hopefully they take some lessons away from it.”
The memorial is at the Erie County PennDOT facility until Monday before leaving to Mercer County.
