BERKS COUNTY, Pa. – It’s another day of record-breaking diesel prices in Berks County. According to AAA, Thursday’s average for a gallon of diesel is $6.53, which is up nine cents since Wednesday.
With no end in sight for the war in Iran, prices are likely to continue rising.
These recent high prices beat records that were set back in 2022, and those in the trucking industry say they’re feeling the squeeze.
“When it jumps so quick, you can’t quite increase your rates quick enough to offset it quick enough,” said Bradley Wanner, Vice President of Peters Brothers Trucking.
“Even if fuel went down, back down to $2 a gallon right now, you’re still going to see increases because there’s been such a pinch for so many years,” he said.
Trucking companies say these higher costs will likely be passed on to the consumer.
