The former treasurer of the Tunkhannock Youth Wrestling Club stole more than $10,000 in club funds for her personal use, police allege.

Jessica Ann Melan, 36, of Tunkhannock Twp., was arraigned Monday on felony and misdemeanor counts of theft and related charges.

According to a criminal complaint filed by state police at Tunkhannock, police were contacted in December 2025 regarding funds missing from the wrestling club. An internal investigation conducted by the club revealed that Melan had been filtering funds from the club for personal gain, the complaint states.

According to the complaint:

Officers of the club told police they discovered funds missing from the club’s bank account. Melan served as club treasurer from about November 2022 till her resignation on Nov. 22, 2025. Club officers told police that when they questioned Melan, she admitted to using club money to pay for child support payments and purchases at numerous stores.

Club officials estimated the total loss at more than $10,000. Some of the money came from a club bank account Melan left open after it was supposed to be closed.

The club’s internal investigation revealed Melan accepted payments to her personal Venmo account for club transactions such as wrestler registration fees, banquet payments and donations to the club.

Further investigation allegedly revealed 50 fraudulent transactions on club bank accounts between July 2023 and November 2025, when Melan resigned. A review of the transactions revealed payments to fast food restaurants, gas stations, a cable television and internet provider and for online shopping, according to the complaint.

Police charged Melan with a felony count of theft by unlawful taking, a misdemeanor count of theft by deception, and both felony and misdemeanor counts of other reason access device is unauthorized by issuer, a crime sometimes referred to as access device fraud.

Following her arraignment, Melan is free on $25,000 unsecured bail, pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 8 before Magisterial District Judge Carl W. Smith Jr.
