The Greenhouse Project will host the sixth annual Honeybee & Harvest Day on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the James B. McNulty Greenhouse at Nay Aug Park in Scranton.
The free fall festival — suitable for the entire family and geared toward educating guests about pollinators and their role in the harvest — will start with a Honeybee Costume Parade featuring a stilt-walking Queen Bee and the Howard Gardner School Marching Band at 12:15 p.m., Greenhouse Project officials said. Members of the public may join the parade by wearing their own honeybee or pollinator costume.
The festival — which will be held in front of the Greenhouse Project location on the south end of the park — will include apple cider pressing, beekeeper demonstrations, educational stations with interactive activities, family games, honey and harvest vendors, raffle baskets, food and music, officials added.
Greenhouse Project officials noted the event this year will showcase traditional international harvest dancers, including Kala School of Indian Classical Dance of Clarks Summit, Rhythmic Republic Dance Studio of Nanticoke, Singyee Dance Group of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and dance instructor Nsiah Strothers of Scranton.
“Honeybee & Harvest Day is a multisensory celebration of honeybees and other pollinators — a community coming together in fun to learn about them and their vital role in the production of our food,” said Jane Risse, executive director of the Greenhouse Project. “It’s always a great vibe, and strong community partnerships make it a continual success each year.”
