Unionized Duquesne Light workers overwhelmingly vote to authorize strike
PITTSBURGH —
Duquesne Light workers with the IBEW Local 29 union have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike as contract negotiations continue.
Nearly 600 workers voted in favor of the strike authorization.
Duquesne Light executives said the company is committed to reaching a fair and balanced agreement.
“While we cannot comment on contract negotiation specifics, this vote was expected and doesn’t mean there will be a work stoppage,” the company said in part. “As an essential service provider, safety and reliability are our core priorities, and we are prepared to activate operational continuity plans in the event of a work stoppage.”
