The Second Presbyterian Church, Pittston, continued to honor first responders by serving them breakfast at the City of Pittston Fire Station for the 10th consecutive year. The event marked the anniversary of the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, when terrorists took down the Twin Towers in New York City.

Those present for breakfast were City of Pittston police officers and firefighters, and personnel from Pittston Township, Laflin, Jenkins Township, and Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance. They were served by the church’s Mission Committee.

According to Elaine Bell, committee member, the church first started to provide a 9-11 breakfast in 2006, but made it a yearly event in 2016.

The church served a variety of egg wraps, home fries, coffee, juice and pastries.

Upcoming events

The Second Presbyterian Church’s upcoming events include:

• Spaghetti take-out dinner from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.

• A trunk or treat for Halloween from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.

• The annual children’s Christmas program during the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 13.

• The Lessons and Carols Christmas Service will be conducted during the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 20.
