OBITUARY
Marilyn J. Hart, 81, of West Scranton passed away Friday September 18, 2026 surrounded by her family, following a brief illness. Her husband of 60 years is James Hart.
Born in Scranton she was the daughter of the late Charles and Concetta “Minnie” Sylvester Haikes. A graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1963.
Marilyn was a well-known expert jeweler in the area, having worked for Duffy Jewelers and Wes Freeman. Additionally, she owned her own store, Hart Jewelers, in West Scranton for over 20 years.
The center of her world was her family, and she had a special bond with her grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Also surviving are son James Hart Jr.; daughter Christine Walker and husband Richard, all of Scranton; grandchildren Sarah Benway and husband Jonathan, Corinne LaMonica and husband Mario, Lauren Back and husband Bryan, Justin Walker and fiancé Olivia Osborne, Joshua Walker; great-grandchildren Maximilian and Patrick Benway; brothers Ronald Haikes and wife Mary and Eugene Haikes and wife Georgeanne; sisters Carol Tokash and Lucille Mancini and husband Raymond; sister-in-law Annmarie Haikes; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brother Charles Haikes.
The funeral will be conducted Tuesday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton. Interment Cathedral Cemetery. All attending the mass are kindly asked to proceed directly to church.
Family and friends may pay their respects Monday from 5 – 7 pm in the funeral home.
