LOWER MERION – Two people were taken to the hospital after a tree fell on three cars at the intersection of Belmont and Old Belmont avenues in Lower Merion on Sept. 18 at 12:49p.m.
According to police, the tree struck three vehicles stopped in traffic. The cars struck were a white Nissan Sentra, a white Ford Mustang, and a black Toyota Highlander.
The driver of the Mustang, a 43-year-old male, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Lankenau Hospital by Narberth Ambulance. The front-seat passenger, a 28-year-old male, sustained serious injuries and was also transported to Lankenau Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition, police said.
The occupants of the Nissan and Highlander sustained minor injuries and were treated and released at the scene.
Belmont Avenue was closed between Rock Hill Road and Jefferson Street for about three hours during the initial investigation. It had also been closed due to repairs to electrical wires damaged in the incident.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lower Merion Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
