The fourth annual Erie Cancer Wellness Center Duathlon brought athletes and families together this weekend for a friendly competition and a meaningful cause.
The run-bike-run format allowed participants of all skill levels to compete while supporting the organization’s mission.
Competitors completed a 5K run, followed by a 20K bike ride, and finished with another 5K run, totaling more than 18 miles.
The race got underway at 9 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Park in Girard, with participants committed to both the challenge and the cause.
The course stretched throughout the park grounds, giving athletes scenic views of the surrounding natural landscape.
Volunteers lined the course, cheering on competitors and helping create an encouraging atmosphere.
Money raised through donations and event registrations supports programs and services offered by the Erie Cancer Wellness Center.
Organizers say the event is about more than competition, bringing the community together to support individuals and families affected by cancer.
Planning is already underway for the 2027 duathlon as organizers look to continue the growing tradition.
