NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (WOIO) – The New Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a shooting that hospitalized two people Sunday.
The department said in a press release that after 4 p.m., it took a report through 911 of two hang-up calls from 238 Second Street SW; there was no answer when officers called back.
On the third call, police received a report that a shooting had occurred in the area and that one man had been shot.
Police said they were able to quickly arrive on the scene, apprehend one man and provide aid to another before the New Philadelphia Fire Department arrived.
The department reports that both men were taken to the hospital.
Detectives with the department are investigating the incident.
In the release, police state that they believe the shooting to be an isolated incident and that there is no active threat to the community.
They add that more information will be released at a later time.
