State grants for infrastructure, equipment upgrades released

Municipalities across Luzerne County were recently awarded state funding in Local Share Account grants to improve roads, purchase equipment, make upgrades to facilities and more.

Local lawmakers announced the grants last week.

“From improving roads and public infrastructure to strengthening emergency services and updating essential equipment, these projects will make our communities safer, more efficient, and better equipped for the future,” said state Sen. Lisa Baker, R-20, Lehman Twp. “I’m proud to support these investments and grateful to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for recognizing the importance of these local projects.”

• Avoca Borough — $250,000 for Avoca Hose Co. building improvements.

• Avoca Borough — $121,735 for dump truck replacement.

• Black Creek Twp. — $114,522 for road repair equipment.

• Black Creek Twp. — $75,000 for equipment for Nuremberg-Weston Volunteer Fire Co.

• Conyngham Twp. — $150,000 for Turtle Creek flood protection rehabilitation project.

• Courtdale Borough — $54,122 for salt shed.

• Dallas Borough — $150,000 for pedestrian safety improvements.

• Dallas Twp. — $200,000 for Troutbrook Road stream crossing replacement.

• Dupont Borough — $100,000 for DPW equipment purchase.

• Duryea Borough — $284,081 for Main Street parking lot improvements and roof replacement.

• Exeter Borough (on behalf of Luzerne County Historical Society) — $450,000 for new facility renovation.

• Exeter Twp. — $200,000 for Della Lane stormwater and roadway restoration project.

• Foster Twp. — $200,000 for Community Center conversion project.

• Freeland Borough — $200,000 for 300 block of Centre Street improvements.

• Harveys Lake Borough — $254,308 for hydrilla management project.

• Hazle Twp. —  $136,284 for municipal equipment and vehicles.

• Hazleton City — $319,144 for Broad Street improvements.

• Jackson Twp. — $231,000 for compact loader.

• Kingston —  $500,000 for public works facility renovation project.

• Kingston Twp. —  $100,000 for Shavertown Fire Dept. relocation and renovation.

• Laflin Borough — $250,000 for pedestrian bridge replacement.

• Lower South Valley Council of Governments —  $115,016 for shared road equipment.

• Luzerne Borough —  $64,000 for emergency cardiac monitor and defibrillator equipment.

• Luzerne County RDA on behalf of Camp Kresge — $225,000 for construction of new dining area.

• Luzerne County RDA on behalf of Salvation Army —  $105,213 for equipment / vehicle acquisition.

• Luzerne County Convention Center Authority —  $100,000 for surveillance system upgrade at Mohegan Arena.

• Luzerne County Convention Center Authority —  $100,000 for HVAC air handler project.

• Luzerne County —  $100,000 for Millennium Circle and Northampton Street Portal improvements.

• Nanticoke City —  $287,877 for LCCC Culinary Institute renovations.

• Newport Twp. — $298,178 for East Main Street emergency access roadway improvements.

• Northeast Pennsylvania Land Bank —  $75,000 for Land bank blight removal.

• Pittston City —  $289,200 for Main Street stage project.

• Pittston City —  $300,000 for elevator project.

• Pittston Twp. —  $87,170 for Municipal building back up generator project.

• Pittston Twp. —  $25,075 for EMA utility truck upfit.

• Plains Twp. on behalf of NEPA Alliance / Keystone Human Services —  $171,743 for disability accessible vehicles for adults with disabilities.

• Plains Twp. —  $92,695 for municipal building roof replacement.

• Plains Twp. —  $77,300 for DPW equipment.

• Ross Twp. —  $76,330 for mini excavator.

• West Side Council of Governments —  $250,000 for shared road equipment.

• Wright Twp. — $463,500 for fire engine purchase for Wright Twp. Volunteer Fire.

• WVSA —  $122,290 for specialized wastewater equipment purchase.

• Wilkes-Barre City on behalf of King’s College — $100,000 for Sheehy-Farmer improvement project.

• Wilkes-Barre City on behalf fo CYC —  $100,000 for Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center improvements.

• Wilkes-Barre City on behalf of Wilkes University —  $200,000 for phase 2 of nursing simulation lab equipment.

• Wilkes-Barre City —  $250,000 for Public Square pathways improvements.

• Wilkes-Barre City —  $58,960 for fire/emergency medical services equipment.

• Wilkes-Barre City —  $250,000 for City Hall renovations.

• West Wyoming Borough —  $250,000 for multi-agency building reconstruction.

• Wyoming Borough —  $100,000 for maintenance equipment project.

Local Share Account funds are generated under the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004), which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support projects in the public interest across Pennsylvania. The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency to administer Pennsylvania economic development programs and investments.
