A Northampton County man accused of fatally shooting his brother early Sunday morning told police he was attempting to remove a round from the chamber of the gun, which he had recently purchased, according to court documents.
Thuan Vo, 21, was arraigned Sunday morning on a charge of homicide alleging he shot his brother Bryan Vo in the 2200 block of Birch Street.
Wilson police were called to the home just after midnight after Thuan Vo called 911 and reported he accidentally shot his brother, according to court documents. Bryan Vo was found in the living room of the home, with a gunshot to the back of his neck, police said.
Bryan Vo was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson Campus, where he died from his injuries. He was pronounced dead just before 7 a.m.
Thuan Vo, in an interview with police, said he and his brother had recently purchased guns, and they had just gotten their concealed carry license, according to charging documents. On Sunday morning, they were watching a movie in the home and were going to go to a gas station to get a drink, police said.
Thuan Vo wanted to carry his handgun, a Glock 19, authorities said. He took the gun from its holster, put a round in it, then re-holstered it, court documents state. Then, thinking it would be unsafe and not wanting a round in the chamber, Thuan Vo said he pressed the magazine release, but did not completely take the magazine out, police said.
He cycled the slide, then pressed the trigger, firing the gun, authorities said. He then saw his brother, who was about 20 feet away, fall to the ground, police said.
The gun was found in the kitchen, and authorities said the magazine was completely seated in it with a round in the chamber.
Vo was sent to Northampton County Prison without bail.
