Barnsley’s three call-ups ensured the Yorkshire derby will have to go on hold.
But Reading away is set to go ahead the following weekend after the home side opted to play on without their internationals.
Royals trio Andy Rinomhota (Zimbabwe), Jeriel Dorsett (Montserrat) and Charlie Savage (Wales) are all on duty for their countries.
That gave Reading the option to cancel the Bantams game as well as their trip to Wycombe this Saturday.
But Reading boss Leam Richardson confirmed they wanted to keep playing this weekend. City’s visit to the Select Car Leasing Stadium on October 3 also remains on, unless there is a late change.
A club statement also said: “As things stand, our fixture against Bradford City a week on Saturday will go ahead as scheduled, and we will update supporters should that position change.”
Richardson told Reading’s club website: “We considered the circumstances carefully and, on this occasion, felt it was right to play the game.
“Football is a squad game and we have confidence in the players available to us, while keeping the fixture in place also helps us avoid adding another game to an already busy schedule.
“It’s better for the supporters too. Saturday afternoon is the ideal time to play football whenever circumstances allow, so we were pleased to keep this one in place.”
City, who lost 2-1 at Reading last season to two sucker-punch late goals, are missing Jon McCracken and Ibou Touray away with Scotland and Gambia respectively.
Zac Hadi is also in a training camp with Iraq under-23s but he does not qualify towards the three-man quota to call games off.
