An Erie man accused of driving a stolen vehicle and of having drugs when police confronted him in late August waived his criminal case to court Sept. 21 after prosecutors amended and withdrew some charges he faced.
Uwayd O. Hussein, 28, waived to court at his preliminary hearing Sept. 21 a third-degree misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property that was amended from a third-degree felony count, and a felony count of possession with intent to deliver. Prosecutors at the hearing withdrew a number of other charges Hussein faced, including a second count of possession with intent to deliver and three misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, according to court records.
Hussein was initially jailed without bond at his Aug. 22 arraignment, then had bond set at $150,000 on Aug. 24, court records show. On Sept. 21, Erie 1st Ward District Judge Christine Rush lowered Hussein’s bond to 10% of $25,000, with no objection from prosecutors, according to court records.
Erie police officers on patrol Aug. 22 said they spotted Hussein getting out of a 2011 Nissan Rogue that was reported stolen. When police searched Hussein, they said they found him with a camouflage bag that contained knotted bags of suspected drugs along with suspected drug paraphernalia, according to information in Hussein’s criminal complaint.
