PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A person was robbed of jewelry at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon in Philadelphia’s Frankford neighborhood, and police are investigating whether the crime may be connected to a recent series of armed robberies targeting jewelry.

The robbery occurred at about 2 p.m. in the 2100 block of Fraley Street, according to police.

Police said two masked men pulled a gun on the victim and stole jewelry in broad daylight. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, but authorities have not released information about the type of vehicle involved.

Investigators are reviewing whether the robbery could be linked to a string of armed robberies reported over the past month. In those incidents, masked men allegedly used an AR-style rifle to rob victims of their jewelry.

One of the previous robberies occurred about a mile away on Tackawanna Street, according to authorities.

However, police said there is no confirmed connection between the cases at this time. Investigators noted only that the suspects in the latest robbery were masked and appeared to be targeting jewelry. It remains unclear whether an AR-style rifle was used in Tuesday’s robbery.

The investigation remains ongoing.
