Pittsburgh Paints Company says homeowners wanting to hit the reset button on a space, without investing in a full-scale redesign need look no further. Pittsburgh Paints recently unveiled its 2027 Color of the Year — a midtone blue called Artifact.

Glidden Color Marketing Manager Ashley McCollum says the color is meant to bring a sense of clarity and balance.

“Artifact, our color of the year, is a very warm midtone smoky blue that feels familiar really the moment that you see it,” McCollum said. “It’s inspired by the restorative qualities of water, and it feels like a deep breath really in color form.”

After years of neutrals and grays dominating the home design market, McCollum says that the consumer appetite for color is back. Pittsburgh Paints’ 2027 palettes pair Artifact with an array of warm reds, browns, and greens, with a call for homeowners to “recalibrate” their spaces.

“Artifact really embodies that idea of a reset and delivers that really fresh perspective without demanding that complete redesign,” McCollum said. “I always recommend it for a bedroom because it’s the perfect shade to help you unwind after a long day and then to start fresh in the morning.”

Last year, Pittsburgh Paints named Warm Mahogany its 2026 Color of the Year, described as “earthy and elegant” and applicability in both residential and commercial spaces. Artifact continues the trend of rich, warm tones, as well as versatility in different spaces.

“We’re really seeing this shift away from the idea that there is a single right way to design a home,” McCollum said. “Instead we’re seeing that consumers are creating spaces that reflect their own lifestyles and priorities and their own personalities.”
