A Philadelphia man has been charged with attempting to steal tires from a Havertown tire business then attempting to steal a bicycle to escape police.
According to an information release from Haverford police:
On Monday shortly before 12:30 p.m., Gregory A. Lackay, 37, attempted to steal $640 in tires from the business in the 200 block of Darby Road.
Lackay was confronted by the business owner during the attempted theft, and he ran. Police were alerted, and while fleeing, Lackay also attempted to steal a bike.
He was apprehended by township officers a short distance away, and charged with retail theft, theft, and possession of small amount of marijuana.
Court records indicate Lackay was arraigned before District Judge Michael A. Burns, who set bail at 10 percent of $150,000, which Lackay was unable to post. Lackey was taken to the Delaware County prison with a Sept. 30 preliminary hearing scheduled before District Judge Elysia Mancini Duerr.
