PENNSYLVANIA (WHP) — The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced that 835 measles cases have been confirmed across 39 counties throughout Pennsylvania in 2026.

As of Sept. 18, the CDC has confirmed one measles death in 2026, but it is unknown whether that case is from Pennsylvania.

Through the first three weeks of September, more than 38,000 MMR vaccine doses have been administered across Pennsylvania. In a typical month, health care providers administer around 25,000 doses of the vaccine.

Since Sept. 21, there have been 43 confirmed positive cases of measles and 164 people hospitalized across 39 counties in Pennsylvania. The total of confirmed measles-associated deaths still stands at 4.

Health care providers have seen a surge of residents interested in seeking MMR vaccinations, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The Department of Health said, “The best protection against measles remains getting fully vaccinated. The MMR vaccine, administered over two doses, boosts a person’s immune system and provides 97% lifetime protection.”
