SALISBURY TWP., Pa. – Doctors are seeing patients who are younger and younger trying to balance hormones and age gracefully.
And, in light of recent news stories, there is a lot of talk about hormonal shifts. So how do you know what’s normal and when something may be more serious?
Dr. Albert Peters, a Reproductive Endocrinologist and Founder of the Center for Anti-Aging Medicine and Hormone Wellness, visited 69 News at Sunrise to tell us more.
Peters talked about the Lindsay Clancy case. With a case as tragic and extreme as that, it can be frightening for new moms.
He discussed what women need to understand about postpartum mental health. He said it is not unusual for women to feel a little melancholy or blue after pregnancy. Mild depression and irritability can come with that, he said.
If the symptoms persists for more than one or two weeks, that’s when people should seek help, he said. Find a practitioner or team that you know.
He said people can go to a psychologist for talk therapy.
If symptoms include severe depression, severe anxiety, considering hurting oneself or someone else, then that’s “too much,” he said. In that case, women should undergo hormonal evaluations and overall wellness checks, he said.
