Manayunk will host an “Out & About” celebration on Saturday, Oct. 3, in connection with National Coming Out Day. The event will feature LGBTQ+ performers, organizations, and entertainment that promotes Manayunk as a safe place that welcomes everyone.
According to a news release, “Out & About” will include the following activities:
An “Out & About” 5K, a free group run celebrating LGBTQIA+ pride led by Queer Run and open to allA drag story time at 11 a.m. on Gay Street (outdoors in Art Alley), hosted by Philly Drag Mafia’s “Don” Brittany LynnAn open-air drag show at 1 p.m. featuring Philly Drag Mafia and DJ Da Boo Boo on Gay Street (outdoors in Art Alley)A karaoke dance party at 2 p.m. hosted by Philly Drag Mafia’s “Don” Brittany Lynn featuring DJ Da Boo Boo on Gay Street (outdoors in Art Alley)
The day will culminate with a double feature of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with Philly’s own Transylvanian Nipple Productions Live Shadowcast. Venice Island Performing Arts Center will host two shows at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. All are welcome to experience the cult classic and the true Rocky Horror experience. Costumes and audience participation are highly encouraged. Tickets are $20 per person.
Each ticket holder will be entered to win a raffle basket curated and filled by local bookshops, Cupid’s and Thrillerdelphia. One winner will be selected at each show.
Several Manayunk establishments will offer themed drinks for the event, including Bayou Bar & Grill (Bayou $20 64-ounce pitchers of Tito’s strawberry lemonade), Blondie (drink specials and Pride pancakes), and Lucky’s Last Chance ($5 Dark & Stormys and a specialty cocktail).
“Out & About in MNYK highlights the diversity and heart of Manayunk,” said Manayunk Development Corporation Event Manager Carla Ferro in a media statement. “We’re proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community and create a space where everyone feels seen, celebrated, and welcomed.”
