The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned 10 players to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) Thursday.
That group includes:
Forwards – Brayden Edwards, Max Graham, Jack Horbach, Hugh McGinn, Mark Senden, Tiernan Shoudy, Daniel Russell
Defensemen – Finn Harding, Daniel Laatsch
Goaltender – Taylor Gauthier
Gauthier cleared waivers Thursday afternoon before being assigned.
Harding, Laatsch and Gauthier are all signed to NHL contracts. Edwards, Graham, Horbach, McGinn, Senden, Shoudy and Russell are all signed to AHL deals.
Defenseman Phil Kemp was placed on waivers. Should he go unclaimed by 2 p.m. Friday, he can be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Serving as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s captain last season, Kemp appeared in a team-leading 70 games and posted 10 points (three goals, seven assists). A right-handed shot, the 27-year-old Kemp is in the second year of a two-year two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $850,000.
Forward Melvin Fernstrom (shoulder) and goaltender Gabriel D’Aigle (undisclosed), both prospects under NHL contract, were designated as injured non-roster. Both players entered the team’s ongoing training camp with injuries and will rehabilitate those ailments with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
