Governor Shapiro announces $775 million for Pennsylvania road and bridge projects
BETHLEHEM, Pa. —
Governor Josh Shapiro announced a $775 million investment in Pennsylvania’s roads and bridges during a visit to Bethlehem, Lehigh County.
“I know that infrastructure is absolutely essential to the future of our commonwealth,” Shapiro said.
The funding will support 79 projects across the state, including paving over 400 miles of roads in 44 counties. The first $250 million will be available immediately.
“I know sometimes we talk about things and it’s years and years and years in the future. No. I want to make sure this happens right now,” Shapiro said.
He added, “All told, each of our 67 counties will get dollars from this rapid deployment fund.”
The money comes from the Motor License Fund through this year’s state budget and will be distributed in rounds over the next 18 months to repair state-owned roads across Pennsylvania.
