EMMAUS, Pa. – A popular spot for craft beer, hard seltzers and alcoholic slushies in Lehigh County is leveling up with a new outdoor venue, set to open next month in conjunction with the business’ inaugural steinholding competition.
Shangy’s, a Lehigh Valley-based beer wholesaler and retailer, will hold a grand opening of its new Shangy’s Biergarten on Oct. 3 outside of its Emmaus location, 40 E. Main St.

The new outdoor event space was built to bring the community together “for unforgettable moments, incredible beer, great food, and the kind of good times you talk about all year,” according to an event description.
The grand opening, kicking off at noon on Oct. 3, will feature live music, local food trucks, and cornhole games.
Guests will be able to purchase beer, slushies and other drinks inside Shangy’s to enjoy in the biergarten, and they also will be able to watch or participate in Shangy’s inaugural steinholding competition (beginning at 1 p.m.).

The top male and female champions will advance to the Pennsylvania Steinholding State Championship at SteelStacks on Oct. 10.
The contest is free to enter (limited spaces; register online), and every contestant receives a free Shangy’s T-shirt and Weihenstephan 1-liter stein.
In addition to earning a spot at the Pennsylvania Steinholding State Championship at SteelStacks, winners will get a $100 Shangy’s gift certificate.

The beer garden will serve as a community hub, coming alive during special events, including food truck nights, beer samplings, seasonal celebrations, contests, and more.
The outdoor space features string lights, landscaped pathways, picnic tables with umbrellas and multiple cornhole sets.
“We’re very excited to create a space for bringing the community together,” Shangy’s owner Nima Hadian told 69 News.
“We might also offer beer classes and invite restaurants to hold events. Whenever we can do something fun to gather the community together, we’re going to do that. We’re hoping to do 12 to 20 events a year. The events would be centered around community, good food, good beer, music, and so on.”
Shangy’s, which dubs itself “the beer authority,” opened in Emmaus in 1980.
A second location opened in 2022 at 6480 Alburtis Road in Lower Macungie Township.
Shangy’s carries nearly 5,000 varieties of beers, including popular and unique domestics and imports, and a wide selection of Lehigh Valley area beers.

In Emmaus, customers can also purchase craft beer from a growler/crowler bar, featuring 40 rotating beers on tap, and alcoholic slushies from a Slush Pup bar, featuring 30 flavors of spiked slushies, Hadian said.
