In one physical collision, Lacota Dippre unleashed a jarring block, clearing the way for Florida star running back Jadan Baugh to sprint for a touchdown that sealed a 44-39 win over Auburn last weekend.

Dippre’s devastating display of physicality, shielding two defenders, created a stir on social media. It also drew national attention for the 6-foot-4, 248-pound tight end, who was a featured player at the media podium for the first time as a Gator.

On Saturday, Dippre and Florida, which jumped into this week’s AP Top 25 at No. 21, hosts No. 4 Ole Miss in a Southeastern Conference showdown at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.

“When we called the play, I was like, ‘Alright, I got to make something shake,’ and it just all worked out,” Dippre said Monday in the press conference. “I stuck my head into it. I didn’t know we were going to score. I definitely knew we were getting the first down. Then, I saw him running. Everything worked out. The whole O-line blocked great. (Baugh) hit it. Everything just worked out.”

Dippre, who set Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association records for receptions by a tight end while at Lakeland, has no receptions this season. He has been lauded for his blocking as the Gators have opened with wins over Florida Atlantic, Campbell, and Auburn. His social media notoriety started on a lead block where he overmatched a defender against FAU, springing Baugh on a run.

Baugh is generating Heisman Trophy buzz and has 458 yards rushing on 54 carries this season.

“I don’t get too caught up with not being heavily involved in the pass game,” Dippre said. “I just get caught up on the score and winning football games.”

Scranton Prep graduate London Montgomery had one carry for minus-3 yards in Florida’s win over Auburn. The East Carolina transfer had 10 snaps against the Tigers. This season, Montgomery has seven carries for 16 yards and has played 25 snaps.

Hitting the field

Penn State freshman walk-on Evan Wolff, a North Pocono graduate, saw his first action of the season on special teams in last week’s 56-13 win over Buffalo.

A 6-2, 215-pound linebacker, Wolff ran down on kickoffs for the Nittany Lions. He also made the travel roster for the game at Temple.

Wolff was a Times-Tribune All-Region linebacker last season, leading North Pocono to a 13-1 record and the Lackawanna Football Conference Division I and District 2 Class 4A championships. He had 125 total tackles, including 73 solo, 15 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, five passes defended, and three forced fumbles.
