Berks County law enforcement agencies will conduct increased DUI enforcement through the end of September, including roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints on area roadways.
The North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program announced the enforcement effort Wednesday, Sept. 24, saying officers will be looking for drivers impaired by both alcohol and drugs.
Officials said the arrival of the fall season and football games can bring increased alcohol consumption and encouraged residents attending or watching games to plan for a safe ride home before drinking.
Police participating in the initiative will conduct roving DUI patrols and sobriety checkpoints at undisclosed locations throughout the county.
The North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program coordinates, equips and funds municipal police DUI enforcement efforts across 11 Pennsylvania counties.
The sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols are funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
