The Franklin Institute is hosting an adults-only Halloween event, Science After Hours: Fright Nite, on Friday, Oct. 16, from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. This event involves costumes, drinks, music, science-themed experiences, and access to core exhibits and galleries throughout the night.
According to a PhillyVoice report, Philadelphia‘s Secret Cinema will screen short films during the evening. A Blob-inspired activity will link the classic horror movie to nearby Phoenixville. Weather permitting, attendees can head to the roof for stargazing and city views.
Activities include Foley sound effects simulations, movie-dubbing demonstrations, demonstrations of how monsters are created by special effects artists, and explorations of medical conditions that inspired classic horror characters.
In addition, the Fels Planetarium will host after-hours programming with DJ Drootrax and full-dome visuals from Liquid Light Lab. Franklin Institute Chief Astronomer Derrick Pitts will discuss memorable space-horror moments and the science behind them.
The event will also offer food and drinks for purchase, including the premiere of a beer from Wissahickon Brewery created specifically for the event. Admission is restricted to guests 21 and older with valid ID. Full-face masks are not permitted.
Ticket prices are $40 for nonmembers and $35 for members. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and programming begins at 8 p.m. Attendees must follow a strict bag-size policy: Small bags or clutches no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches will be permitted.
